Fertility: My Story On Waiting To Have Children

My Story On Waiting To Have Children

This post is more personal than I usually share, but it's important. There is pressure from so many places to start your family young. I’m Dr. Jessica Bernardy, a 30-something naturopathic doctor. I’m married to an amazing man, also an ND and an acupuncturist. We are consciously waiting to start our family. There are so many reasons, including enjoying our kid-free life a bit longer and getting our businesses off the ground.

One nagging thought that goes along with waiting is the fear that maybe I won’t be able to get pregnant naturally when I want to. Can you relate?? What will I do if that happens? Will I go through IVF? What other options are out there?

Being a doctor and fertility expert, this is a situation I’ve heard so many times. Many people are waiting until later in life to have children. And many people are worried about waiting!

In 2016, fertility rates reached an all time low, BUT the rates of babies born to women age 30-44 increased. That is our future folks, many many people are waiting to start or add to their families. The question is how can we keep ourselves healthy in the meantime so that we can have a child when the time comes? What are the factors that hurt our fertility?

I’m here to share my day-to-day life, the ups and the downs in my journey to creating health and optimal fertility in my life so that when I’m ready, I’ll be able to achieve pregnancy naturally. I hope this will inspire you to also create health and optimal fertility. This is my mission in life. To help as many people as possible and to create a healthy world. (I could go on and on about preconception fertility optimization leading to optimal epigenetics in the child, making for a healthier human race! We'll save that for another day though.)

I’m am 100% into being a #bosslady and want to set up my life, my health, and my business to have the time and space to devote to raising another human. This includes physical space – we all have heard of the long sleepless nights having an infant demands – it’s mental spiritual and space – I truly believe that to raise the best child possible we need to deal with our own sh** - and relationship space – how will you and your partner deal with raising children together? All big questions I hope to address.
